Hello ladies! I am so excited for Christmas and New Years! This is my absolute favorite time of year and I never want it to end! I hope you are excited about it as well and prepared for the festivities that are coming your way. Sometimes we are so focused on Christmas that we don’t start thinking about New Year’s stuff until after Christmas is over. So, if you are entertaining on New Years and need to add some sparkle and shine to your home, I want to give you some simply chic ways to do this. The fall & winter trends in home decor make it so easy to add this look to your home because it is all about textures and embellishments. Hopefully some of my tips will inspire you to create a fun space that you and your guests will enjoy.
Find Something That Inspires You:
Just remember to try not to overthink it! Concentrate on things that fit into your space and create the atmosphere you would like to portray. I always try to find something that inspires me to give me a focal point for the design and I run with it! I apply the same principles to my outfits. Usually I choose one thing and build the outfit around it. I use to think that decorating was impossible but then I realized I do it everyday in my outfits! See, I was always overthinking it!
My inspirational “something” was my fun “Charlie Brown” tree, which gained this affectionate term because of its “twiggy” appearance. It sits in my hearth room, the party gathering place, so it was the perfect room to focus on adding sparkle and shine. The color palette for the room came from the pink, silver and white decorations on the tree. Since we are bombarded with so many options it is best to have something to build the rest of your decor around.
Simple Touches Go A Long Way:
I started decorating with pillows and a blanket because they can make the biggest impact for very reasonable cost. They totally changed the look of the room and my couch! I chose 2 medium faux fur with sequins pillows for the corners of the couch and a pink sparkle lumbar pillow for the middle. I then added a pink chenille throw for additional interest, warmth and texture. The faux fur and chenille help to balance the sparkles and make the room feel warm and cozy. I already have two pillows that say “Live, Laugh, Love” on them in the space, so I kept them in my two chairs because I thought they were appropriate for the New Years holiday.
My fireplace was the next project to add some sparkle and shine for the holiday season. Since it is the focal point in the room I wanted to make it a little dramatic. I used some beautiful garland with pine cones and snow to bring the look of winter inside. I added 2 tall silver vases with playful stems coming out of the tops and some pretty lighting to make it all sparkle.
The Small Things That Make a Big Impact:
LED string lights are such a game changer when it comes to decorating. I am so glad I listened when a friend of mine recommended these to me. The string lights are just that, strings of copper or silver wire with tiny LED lights that have a battery operated square box at the end of the string. You use them to light up whatever you want! They don’t get hot and will wrap around objects really easily. I also love them inside jars or lanterns. They are inexpensive and can add simple sparkle and shine to your decor!
You may also want to try and personalize your space to bring in the feeling of the season. I decided to put large rustic J & S letters on the mantle to represent mine and my husbands names. New Year’s is usually celebrated with your significant other (or the one you are looking to be your significant other, LOL) so I thought the letters gave a simple romantic touch to the decor. These thoughtful touches are what will make your decor personalized and unique.
Other great additions that are small but make a big impact are mirrors, picture frames, candles, candle sticks and fun textured pieces that fill the space. I added all of these elements to the room to make a festive but cozy place for people to gather and enjoy the season and the New Year.
I hope this inspires you to add some sparkle and shine to your holiday season. These are simple and easy additions that will make a big impact and are sure to make your guest get into the holiday spirit! Below you will find some suggestions from Wayfair that I feel would add the perfect amount of sparkle and shine to your home.
Have a Merry Christmas and Happy “Sparkle and Shine” New Year! Lots of Love, Jamie
