Hello Memphis Ladies!  There was such high anticipation around Memphis and the surrounding areas that we were actually getting a Nordstrom Rack! Something cool finally comes to Memphis.  Wow!  A lot of us hoped for a Nordstrom but knew that was probably a long shot.  So we must settle for this baby!  I do have to say I welcome it with open arms!  I was fortunate to get an invite to the Private Shopping Party that happened two days before it actually opened to the public.  You could register a guest or two so I brought along my friend and blogging buddy Erika McChesney of www.beautoptician.com. I met her while working at Eclectic Eye and we basically started this blogging world together.  We both have different purposes for it but we love to help each other out.

I arrived about an hour and a half before Erika, around 4,  because I knew I wanted enough time to check everything out and she had to work until 5:30.  I am a meticulous shopper so it takes me a while to get acclimated to a new environment.  I wanted to learn the brands, how they merchandise them and just have time to take everything in.  I took some photos of my favorite things and I have to say the ultimate favorite thing of the entire evening was the shopping cart and the candied bacon (I ate it so fast I never got a photo, sorry!). THE SHOPPING CART OF ALL SHOPPING CARTS! The most annoying thing about regular basket carts is the fact there is no rack for the clothes on hangers.  I may be totally sheltered but I have never seen one of these and thought they were just GENIUS! Who does not agree with me? They also encourage people to try on more stuff so kudos to you Nordstrom Rack!

The best part of shopping at Nordstrom Rack! The Shopping Carts of All Shopping Carts!

The layout of the store makes total sense and is easy to shop. Everything is divided up into sections like a department store. The racks are not super close together but they themselves are crowded like any other discount store..  My favorite part of the atmosphere was how nice the employee’s were and the shoppers!  I love going into a shopping environment where women talk and help each other pick stuff out even though they don’t know each other.  This always happens to me anyway, maybe I have professional shopper written on my forehead, funny!  But to get back to my point, most discount places, whether it be a Sam’s, TJ Maxx, DSW etc., the employees are not usually that helpful and sometimes not even nice.  I am not trying to be negative, it’s just a fact of discount life. Discount retail usually means no service and I expect it when I go somewhere like this, so when people are super helpful I notice it. This is coming from me, who worked in the high end service industry for years!

After shopping until about 7:15 we finally made it to the dressing room.  We were having so much fun we didn’t realize it had gotten so late and the event ended at 8!  We kind of panicked but it ended up fine.  At least there was not a line for the dressing room like earlier in the evening and we went right in.  We made a friend named Kendra in the dressing rooms too and wished I would have gotten her number!  If your are reading this Kendra please reach out!

The photos below are of my two favorite pairs of jeans in the whole store and they happened to be Paige jeans which is one of my new favorite denim lines. They have been around for years and have perfected the fit of the jeans.  I sold them years ago and they did not fit me right but they are actually perfect now.  I have purchased two pairs from TJ Maxx this year and will be wearing the heck out of them. The stock was quite large on their Paige denim and Joe’s jeans for the contemporary market.

The selection of tops was not really my favorite.  Some of the jackets and sweaters were cute but I have so many of those items already I did not buy any of what they had. I just did a post on the menswear-inspired blazer and the left picture is an example of a more fitted style with feminine sleeves. I also want to point out the shoulder pads that are back in style.  I was thankful the 80’s left and there were no more shoulder pads! At least the shoulder pads are not as large as they were in the 80’s.  The photo on the right was a cute Free People sweater that had the popular balloon sleeve but the color was not good on this pale skin and red hair!

Harlow & Graham Menswear Stripe Blazer on left for $49.97 and Free People Sweater on right and forgot to get details (sorry)

They did a great job with styling the mannequins and I absolutely loved this one.  The green furry vest under the jacket was so cute!  I also love the vintage look of the jeans.  Although we may not get cold enough here to wear this I still loved it!  My cold weather goals!

To wrap it up, here are more of my favorite things that we found while shopping around. They had great little jackets, accessories, fun t-shirts, designer handbags, the prettiest over the knee boots by Stuart Weitzman (and tons of other shoes) and high-end cosmetic lines such as Urban Decay!  I didn’t expect to see so much in the beauty section.  They had face masks, cleansers, makeup, and nail polish just to name a few items in the beauty section! I hope if you live in Memphis and the surrounding areas that you will visit this place.  You will find some great deals and have a splendid time doing it!

Thanks Nordstrom Rack for putting a location in Memphis and for the fun Private Shopping Party (the bacon and cookies were delish!).
